I've been having a weird problem when I start my car. It would go to the normal RPM and then after about 15secs the RPMs will drop and seem like it will cut out or stall. It will remain low for about 5secs and then race back up to normal RPM.

My RPMs also drop to about 500 when coming to a stop and slowly return to normal.

I think all this is due to running VERY rich.

So my first plan of attack is changing my plugs, then I'll look at the IAC valve and MAP sensor.

I've heard that NGKs are the general concensous (sp) but what are the EXACT numbers so I can go to my local auto store and get them? What should they be gapped at? And is it 1 or 2 heat ranges colder?

    Thanks

    My setup:
    '96 SOHC non-vtec w/JRSC @ 8psi
    Walbro high-flow GSS-217 fuel pump
Cartech FMU (SMC soon to be installed)
    B&M style FPR
    Stock injectors

    I would go with either:
    ZFR7F11 = step 7 heat rating
    R5671A-8 = step 8 heat rating.

Both are copper NGK plugs, the first one being more common I think, but someone recommended going with the second one because it doesn't have nearly as far a projected tip so the strap is shorter... The second one is basically a racing plug. I've been told that you won't foul out that 8 heat rating either. I just ordered some so I'll let you know how they are in about a week or two when I get them installed and get a chance to look at them after driving for a while. I got them at www.clubplug.net... 10 plugs for $23 shipped.

here's the r5671a-8 plugs and the ZFR7F-11 plugs. The r5671a-8 plugs come pregapped to .030.

    oldngk

The reason the former is recommended over the more popular latter is because the strap is smaller, therefore electricity doesn't have to go so far to make the spark.

    A little helpful info.

The -11 at the end of the plug # refers to what the plug is pre-gapped at.

    -11 = 1.1 mm or .0433 inches.

    -8 = .8 mm or .0315 inches
